How to fit a roof bike rack
- Confirm the bike's weight, wheelbase, tire width, axle type, and frame considerations.
- Confirm the carrier fits the actual crossbar profile and spacing.
- Position the tray or carrier so pedals, bars, hatch, and adjacent bikes clear.
- Attach the carrier fully and verify every clamp or T-bolt is seated.
- Load the bike and engage the wheel, fork, or frame retention exactly as designed.
- Shake the bike and carrier as a complete system before driving.
E-bike? Load it lower. Many e-bikes exceed roof rack limits. A hitch platform is usually the more practical choice.
Check it loaded. An empty rack can leave the camera, lights, and plate visible. Two bikes can change that completely.
Heaviest bike first.Put it where the maker specifies, often closest to the vehicle.
